Eversfield Organic - Quality Organic Produce Delivered to Your Door

Soil Association Go Organic September

Why go organic?

1. Better For You

Research has proven that there are significant nutritional differences between food that has been organically farmed and food that has been non-organically farmed.

At crop level, organic produce has been shown to be up to 68% higher in a number of key antioxidants than conventionally farmed crops.
Organic meat and dairy produce contain approximately 50% more good-for-you omega-3 fatty acids, as well as higher concentrations of iron, vitamin E and carotenoids. It has also been shown that organic meat is lower in at least two types of saturated fat.

2. Free From Chemicals

Organic food is produced free from the use of artificial pesticides and fertilisers, meaning the food which reaches your plate is purely the product of nature.

Up to 300 pesticides are permitted for routine use in conventional farming, many of which can’t simply be washed off or omitted by cooking.

By making use of natural fertilisers, we are also minimising energy consumption and reliance on finite fossil fuel resources to create intense artificial ones.

3. Healthy Soils

Our soils are the soul of our planet and we are not looking after them well. It can take thousands of years to form just an inch of topsoil yet we’re degrading something close to 30 football pitches of it every minute.

Reliance on agro-chemicals, short rotations and damaging crop systems including maize cultivation are all combining to deteriorate the long-term health of our soils.

The Soil Association aims to increase organic matter in arable and horticultural soils by 20% over the next 20 years, which will in turn, restore productivity of the soil in years to come – a win win.

4. Happier Animals

When you see the organic mark on meat and dairy produce, you know that these animals were raised in a more natural setting, they live truly free range and are never subjected to routine use of antibiotics.

The Soil Association sets strict guidelines to ensure all animals involved in their certified produce experience the very highest in animal welfare standards. Organic animals are never genetically modified (GM).

5. Traceability

Being certified organic by the Soil Association means that you can trace the journey of your product from its origin to your plate. More than ever, we as consumers are looking to producers and retailers for reassurance that the things we buy are coming from sustainable and ethical sources.

Procedures and records are in place to ensure that every organic item can be traced to source so you always know what you’re eating is authentic and as it should be.
