The Organic Guide to Healthy Eating

With the Christmas indulgence over and the New Year welcomed in, many of us are thinking about New Year’s resolutions and how to eat a little bit healthier in 2023. Here’s our guide to healthy eating the organic way…

Typically, ‘healthy eating’ isn’t seen as providing the most enjoyable or exciting food, bringing to mind limp and flavourless salads and meagre portions which leave you feeling dissatisfied, however, the reality is quite the contrary. Healthy eating doesn’t have to be boring and restrictive, in fact, it can be even more delicious than unhealthy options, fuelling your body in the right way and leaving you feeling on top of the world.

Here's our top 5 tips to help you eat healthier in 2023!

1) Eat better quality meat

Cutting down on saturated fats is on great way to start eating healthier. Whilst the mere mention of fats in food can strike fear into some people, it is not something to be entirely avoided. The consumption of fats is actually essential for our bodies to function healthily but eating too many saturated fats can have a negative impact on your health, raising cholesterol levels and increasing the risk of heart disease. It’s all about finding a healthy balance!

Choosing organic meat can help reduce your consumption of saturated fats, containing less than conventionally farmed meat due to the way livestock is raised, leading longer lives, fed on a natural pasture diet, resulting in better quality meat. The meat produced by organic farming is also typically rich in omega-3 which helps build muscle and fight against inflammation in joints, making it amazing for health all round.

Check out our full range of organic meat here. Not only is it great for your body, it’s also delicious, packed full of flavour and ridiculously tender…

2) Eat your greens!

Okay, okay, this one might seem obvious, but making sure you eat enough fruit and veg is something that often gets overlooked.

A vital source of essential vitamins and minerals, getting in your 5-a-day has a whole host of benefits for your body such as helping reduce the risk of certain diseases, maintaining healthy blood sugar levels and assisting the functioning of your digestive system.

A sure-fire way to make sure you have all the fruit and veg you need for the week is by ordering one of our fruit and veg boxes. Choose from a wide range of different sizes and contents depending on your requirements, all full of fresh organic seasonal fruit and vegetables, delivered to your door for convenience for you to enjoy a balanced diet!

Organic fruit and veg has further health benefits than that which is conventionally farmed, free of nasty artificial pesticides which can have adverse effects on our health, containing chemicals called endocrine disruptors which can interfere with our bodies hormones. Eating organic produce means you can avoid consuming these potentially harmful chemicals and feel the health benefits of doing so.

3) Find healthier recipes

If you’re stuck in a bit of a routine with your regular mid-week meals and Friday night takeaways, getting out of this and finding new and exciting recipes using fresh ingredients can be a great way to fill your diet with healthier food.

4) Eat more fish

Fish is an amazing food for healthy eating, packed with protein, omega-3 and calcium, and a rich source of minerals including iron, potassium and zinc which are all brilliant for our bodies. The NHS even recommends aiming to eat 2 portions of fish a week for all its fantastic properties.

Oily fish, such as wild salmon, mackerel and sardines, are particularly good for you, being the richest source long chain omega-3 fatty acids, which help protect against heart disease by lowering blood pressure, aid healthy brain functioning and prevent joint inflammation.

All our fish is wild (unless stated otherwise) and sustainably sourced from UK coastlines, supporting local fisheries, so you can rest assured that you are enjoying your fish dinner as ethically as possible. Find our full range here.

5) Be kind to your body

Whilst it might feel like a requirement to enter the New Year living as healthily as possible, it’s important to not put too much pressure on yourself and your body. Not every meal has to be 100% healthy, it’s all about balancing your diet and making healthier choices, whilst still enjoying the food you eat and not being overly restrictive (yes that does mean you can still enjoy a slice of cake or chocolate bar from time to time).

Remember to be kind to yourself and your body this New Year and make your New Year’s resolutions sustainable to your lifestyle, so you can carry them out the best you possibly can without becoming overwhelmed and exhausted.
